Afghanistan And Uzbekistan Discuss Financial Cooperation And Money Transfer Solutions

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Noor Ahmad Agha, the Governor of the Central Bank of Afghanistan under Taliban control, met with Timur Ishmetov , the Governor of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, to discuss creating facilities for money transfers to Afghanistan. The meeting took place on Sunday, February 23, and highlighted efforts to improve financial relations between the two countries.

According to a statement released by the Taliban, the two sides discussed enhancing banking cooperation, creating more efficient money transfer mechanisms, and using national currencies for trade transactions. These steps are part of broader efforts to stabilize and grow Afghanistan's economy amid international isolation.

The statement also mentioned that the discussions included topics on connecting and developing payment systems and improving banking capacity between the two nations. This reflects the Taliban's ongoing efforts to integrate Afghanistan's financial system with neighboring countries despite significant challenges.

Meanwhile, a high-level Taliban delegation, led by Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, traveled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for a two-day official visit. The visit aims to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

According to the press office of the Taliban's Economic Affairs Department, several senior economic officials, including ministers from the Ministries of Mines, Transport, Trade, Agriculture, Central Bank, and Finance, participated in this diplomatic mission. This underscores the Taliban's focus on economic recovery and regional cooperation.

The discussions between the Taliban and Uzbekistan highlight an essential aspect of Afghanistan's economic future: establishing stable financial systems and boosting international trade. However, the effectiveness of these efforts will depend on how well the Taliban can maintain diplomatic relations and address the economic challenges it faces internally.

As Afghanistan seeks to rebuild its financial systems, cooperation with neighboring countries like Uzbekistan will be crucial. These discussions and visits reflect a step toward economic recovery, though challenges remain in terms of both international recognition and the sustainability of Afghanistan's economic reforms.
