Serbian President Vucic Accuses West of Spending Billions to Oust Him

(MENAFN) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has claimed that Western powers have spent around €3 billion (USD 3.1 billion) over the past decade in efforts to overthrow him. In an interview with Pink TV on Monday, Vucic accused foreign forces of trying to undermine his leadership, attributing their actions to a desire to destabilize Serbia.

These remarks come in the wake of student-led protests that have rocked Serbia for weeks, fueled by allegations of corruption and governmental negligence. The protests were initially sparked by the tragic collapse of a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad railway station in November, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people following extensive renovations.

In his interview, Vucic reiterated his previous accusations, blaming "foreign instructors" aligned with Western, Croatian, and Albanian interests for inciting the unrest. He suggested that these external actors were attempting to orchestrate a "color revolution" in Serbia, further claiming that foreign powers began intensifying their efforts to destroy the country once it started to show signs of rapid growth.
