Gurugram Traffic Cops Collect Rs 1.2 Crore As Fine In One Month

(MENAFN- IANS) Gurugram Feb 10 (IANS) Gurugram Traffic Police have imposed challans amounting to Rs 1.2 crores against 20,415 traffic offenders from January 1 to January 31 for wrong-side driving, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) traffic, Virender Vij, said to take effective action against those driving on the wrong side, Gurugram Police conducted special campaigns and regularly checked vehicles at various places.

During checking, drivers who were found driving on the wrong side were challenged as per the rules.

Traffic Police officials said that it is extremely worrying that people are openly flouting the traffic norms, as wrong-side driving can cost the lives of several pedestrians and other motorists.

"The main objective of Gurugram Police is to make the journey easy and safe by conducting the traffic in an organised and smooth manner. For the smooth, easy and systematic operation of traffic, action is taken as per rules by Gurugram Police against those who violate traffic rules," Vij said.

Gurugram Police runs special awareness campaigns from time to time to make people aware and motivate them to follow traffic rules by giving information about traffic rules, he said.

He added that wrong-side or wrong-lane driving is the main factor behind the accidents, adding that the violation during rush hours or at night time could be more risky for commuters.

Gurugram Police appeals to all drivers to ensure compliance with traffic rules so that road accidents can be avoided there is no loss of life and property, and traffic movement remains smooth, easy and organised, he added.

Meanwhile, the traffic officials said they have identified major traffic points that cause maximum accidents.

"The traffic police have also made a plan to reduce fatalities under which the installation of traffic signals at the Rajiv Chowk is under pipelines. Also, our traffic personnel are deployed to catch violators who break the rules on the National Highways and State Highways, as maximum accidents take place there. Our main goal is to reduce fatalities on the road and ensure to follow traffic rules,” the DCP asserted.
