Colombian President announces he had requested resignation of his ministers

(MENAFN) Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Sunday that he had requested the resignation of his ministers and senior government officials due to escalating tensions within his administration. Petro wrote on the X platform that changes would be made in the Council of Ministers to ensure better alignment with the program demanded by the people.

Earlier that day, Environment Minister Susanna Mohammed resigned following a heated and extraordinary meeting between Petro and his government. The meeting, which lasted over five hours, saw Petro, who took office in 2022 with a social reform agenda, criticize almost all of his ministers for failing to make progress on key projects.

In a statement broadcast on "Loos Danieles," Mohammed explained that submitting her resignation was a "difficult" decision. Her resignation marks the third high-ranking official to leave after the contentious cabinet meeting.
