Aga Khan, Leader Of Ismaili Muslims, Laid To Rest In Aswan, Egypt

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Shah Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community and a globally respected philanthropist who passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, was laid to rest in Egypt on Sunday. The Ismaili community's social media shared images of his coffin and the funeral service in Egypt.

The funeral was attended by members of the Aga Khan family, including Prince Rahim al-Husseini, the 50th hereditary Imam and spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shiite Muslims.

According to a statement from the Ismaili community, Karim Aga Khan was buried at the tomb of Molana Sultan Mohammed Shah in Aswan, Egypt.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, renowned for his extensive development efforts through the Aga Khan Development Network, passed away in Lisbon at the age of 88 after nearly seven decades of spiritual leadership.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the son of Karim Aga Khan, has been appointed the 50th Imam of the Ismaili Shiites as per his father's will.

The Aga Khan Development Network, and its subsidiaries, have a significant presence in Afghanistan, working across healthcare, education, rural development, small loan provisions, private sector development, and historical site restoration.

Karim Aga Khan's death marks the end of an era of leadership in the Ismaili community. His contributions to social and economic development through the Aga Khan Development Network have left a lasting impact, particularly in underserved regions.

As the community transitions to new leadership under Prince Rahim Aga Khan, it is expected that the focus on humanitarian development, education, and cultural preservation will continue to thrive under the new Imam's guidance.
