Moscow, Kiev trade POWs

(MENAFN) Russia and Ukraine have successfully exchanged 150 prisoners of war each, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The released Russian soldiers have been transferred to Belarus for medical and psychological treatment, with further rehabilitation set to take place upon their return to Russia. The exchange, which took place on February 5, was facilitated through negotiations, with the United Arab Emirates playing a key role in organizing the process. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also expressed appreciation for the UAE’s involvement.

This follows previous exchanges, including one in mid-January where 25 prisoners were swapped, and another larger exchange of 150 soldiers from each side before the new year. The UAE has mediated both recent exchanges. Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had offered to negotiate a larger swap of around 700 prisoners from each side, but Kiev declined the proposal, with Moscow previously accusing Ukraine of hesitancy in reclaiming its soldiers.
