Magnitude-7.6 Earthquake Hits Caribbean, Sends Tsunami Alarm


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- An earthquake of 7.6-magnitude had hit the Caribbean region, sending Tsunami alarm, said scientific centers on Sunday.
United States Geological Survey, in a statement, revealed that the earthquake, which occurred Saturday at 8:23 pm local-time six miles west of the Cayman Islands' coast, had triggered Tsunami alarms in several Caribbean nations.
The US Tsunami Warning Centers issued a warning that Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, in the central of the Caribbean, would face high waves and strong sea currents.
Similar warnings were issued for Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Haiti. (end)
