Former President Martin Torrijos: Panama's Sovereignty Is Not Negotiable And Will Not Be Allowed To Be Violated

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) Former President of the Republic, Martín Torrijos, issued a message in which he reaffirmed that Panama's Sovereignty is not negotiable and will not be allowed to be violated under any pretext. Torrijos said the country has experienced weeks of uncertainty since US President Donald trump took office. Through a video posted on his social Network X, Torrijos indicated that the country has lived weeks of uncertainty since the president of the United States, Donald Trump, assumed his mandate and began an offensive of threats and lies against this country.“We are the proud heirs of a struggle for dignity and patriotism,” said the son of Omar Torrijos, who signed the Torrijos-Carter Treaty, as pictured below.

He recalled that for 25 years Panama has managed the Canal with responsibility and stability, guaranteeing its security, efficiency and neutrality. Torrijos stressed that the interoceanic route was expanded for the benefit of users and this country. He said that today we have to reaffirm before the United States and the world that we have complied with the Torrijos-Carter treaties, especially with the neutrality of the Canal. “We understand the value of solidarity and we have shown that we know how to be friends and can always collaborate with reciprocity and respect. If it is necessary and the security of the canal needs to be reinforced, we will do so as what we are, an independent and sovereign nation,” he said. He called for unity with determination and intelligence in defending what belongs to us. For his part, he said he is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the dignity, sovereignty and future of Panama.
