(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
CAIRO, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated unequivocal rejection of any attempts to evict the residents of Gaza Strip forcibly from their homes.
In a phone conversation, initiated by the Secretary General on Friday, they stressed the need of launching a post-war reconstruction of the Strip and ensuring return of normal life for the Palestinians, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Mohammad Al-Shennawi said in a press release.
President Al-Sisi briefed the Secretary General on Egypt's efforts to support the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli occupation forces, pursue the exchange of prisoners, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
Both sides highlighted the importance of the two-state solution to the conflict and establishing an independent state of Palestine within the borders of June 4,1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital city.
They also underscored the pivotal role of the UNRWA in meeting the basic humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people pursuant to the relevant UN resolutions, the spokesman pointed out.
President Al-Sisi briefed the Secretary General also reviewed the latest developments of the situations in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Libya and Somalia, he added. (end)
