Centre Of Excellence To Boost Manufacturing In Ludhiana

(MENAFN- KNN India) Ludhiana, Feb 6 (KNN) Ludhiana's manufacturing sector is set to receive a significant boost with the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU).

Developed in collaboration with IIT Ropar, the facility aims to provide cutting-edge training and support to local industries.

In its first phase, the Centre will house three advanced laboratories dedicated to 3D printing, reverse engineering, and sensor prototyping.

These labs will play a crucial role in modernising manufacturing processes, enhancing efficiency, and reducing costs.

The 3D Printing Lab will enable industries to develop rapid prototypes of hand tools, machine parts, and castings. By leveraging advanced scanning and printing technologies, businesses can improve precision, minimize lead times, and lower production expenses.

The Reverse Engineering Lab will utilise state-of-the-art 3D scanning and printing to recreate existing components. This will help industries refine product designs, ensure standardisation, and decrease dependence on imported parts, fostering self-reliance in manufacturing.

The Sensor Prototyping Lab, in partnership with IIT Ropar, will focus on developing over 100 different types of sensors.

With the Indian government prioritising the toy industry in the Union Budget, the lab will also contribute to sensor innovation for this sector. IIT Ropar will provide initial training and technical guidance to ensure effective implementation.

CICU President Upkar Singh Ahuja emphasised the need for practical training in prototyping, citing a shortage of skilled graduates with hands-on expertise.“This Centre will help industries integrate electronics and sensor technology into their products, adding significant value,” he stated.

Funded by the industry with an initial investment of Rs 3 crore, the project has also sought additional support from the Ministry of Heavy Industry and the Punjab government.

The facility is set to commence operations this month, with a tentative inauguration on February 20 and full-scale operations by February 28.
