Lavrov warns ‘America First’ has concerning echoes of Hitler’s ‘Germany above all’

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has raised concerns over the US's "America First" policy, drawing alarming parallels with the Nazi-era slogan "Germany Above All," which asserted national superiority. In an op-ed published on Tuesday, Lavrov argued that Washington's current approach undermines the UN Charter and the post-World War II global order built on sovereign equality, a principle outlined in the Yalta-Potsdam agreements of 1945.

Lavrov criticized the approach of the US under President Donald Trump, claiming that it threatens the post-war international system and disregards international legal obligations. He also expressed concern that the US's "peace through strength" doctrine could mark the end of diplomatic efforts.

According to Lavrov, the global order of the past is no longer viable due to shifting demographic, economic, and geopolitical realities. He expressed hope that the US would embrace a new, multipolar world where it would be part of a balanced system of global powers, alongside countries like Russia and China, rather than maintaining its hegemonic status.

Lavrov emphasized that the UN Charter remains the best framework for managing global affairs in this new era, urging adherence to its principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and respect for international norms. He warned against attempts to reorder the world for self-interest, stating that such actions could lead to instability and even global catastrophe.
