Turkey Sees Drop in Passenger Car Sales, but Hybrid, Electric Cars Show Significant Growth

(MENAFN) Passenger car sales in Turkey experienced a 12.6 percent decline in January compared to the same period last year, dropping by 8,097 units, as reported by the Automotive Distributors' and Mobility Association (ODMD) on Tuesday. A total of 68,654 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold across the country last month, reflecting a 13.9 percent year-on-year decrease.

In particular, light commercial vehicle sales saw a more significant decline, dropping 18.8 percent to 12,710 units in January. Despite the overall drop in sales, certain vehicle categories showed positive growth, particularly hybrid and electric vehicles.

Hybrid cars made up 29.7 percent of total automobile sales, reaching 16,642 units in January, which marks an impressive 61.5 percent annual increase. Similarly, electric car sales saw a substantial rise of 56.7 percent, reaching 6,225 units and accounting for 11.1 percent of total sales. This growing trend of eco-friendly vehicles highlights a shift towards greener alternatives in Turkey's automotive market.
