Turkey, Egypt Reject Displacement Of Palestinians


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart Bader Abdelatty assured on Tuesday the rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people and stressed the need for cooperation to ensure the implementation of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
In a press briefing, Fidan alongside Abdelatty who's on an official visit to the capital Ankara, stressed the importance of a unified stance by the international community to help prevent the Israeli efforts from displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to say, "We oppose all attempts aimed at expelling the Palestinians from their homeland."
He also mentioned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could reignite the violence again threatening the peace process in addition to the displacement procedures planned on Gaza could threaten the peace in the region.
While also pointing out the escalation in attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank as efforts are needed to halt such actions and "terror" as soon as possible.
On Turkish-Egyptian relations, Fidan said, "Turkey and Egypt's cooperation and joint efforts are a necessity for both, and our partnership will enhance the prosperity of our people and region."
He gravely thanked Egypt's efforts in achieving the ceasefire in Gaza, again stressing the international community's need to mobilize to make it permanent.
Bilateral trade with Egypt had augmented, he added that it rose "by one billion dollars in 2024 compared with 2023 reaching nine billion as Turkish investors expanded their potential in Egypt."
Abdelatty also confirmed that these efforts will continue to reach the 15 billion mark as this trade exchange is an implementation of what was agreed upon by Egyptian President Abdel Farrah El-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during their meeting in Ankara last September.
He also thanked Turkish authorities for their efforts in seizing and returning a number of smuggled Egyptian antiquities as his visit coincided with the visit of Egyptian Minister of Tourism Sherif Fathi to Ankara to receive these 152 artifacts.
The discussions held also revolved around issues of defense industries, transportation, energy, and hydrocarbons, as the impacts of the problems in the area were not limited to the region said Fidan.
On the topics of Syria, Fidan made clear the importance of cooperation with Egypt as he and his Egyptian counterpart discussed the security, economic, and humanitarian situation in Syria.
He stressed the stability of Syria would be in the interest of everyone in the region, noting the importance of providing support to the new Syrian administration so that the transitional phase is comprehensive and based on the rule of law, in addition to the need to carry out joint efforts against organized terrorism.
On Libya Fidan mentioned that they are in agreement with Egypt on the unifications and peace and that they are continuing dialogue to ensure permanent stability in the country.
He also wished that Sudan's conflict ends soon as it has been 21 months resulting in a lot of destruction all over the country, "we must do our best to ensure our Sudanese brothers do not enter the month of Ramadan in an atmosphere of conflict." (end)
