(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- The US State Department said on Tuesday that they made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the government of Egypt of AN/TPS-78 Long Range Radar and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of USD 304 million.
A statement by the department said, the "Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying congress of this possible sale today."
The US State Department also made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of Fast Missile Craft Modernization and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of USD 625 million.
"This proposed sale will support US foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic growth in the Middle East," the statement said.
"The proposed sale will improve Egypt's capability to meet current and future threats by increasing the tactical and operational capabilities of the Egyptian Navy to support strategic maritime security objectives. Egypt will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region," the statement added. (end)
