Israeli military destroys Palestinian house in Salfit
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Israeli army demolished a Palestinian home near Salfit city in the northern occupied West Bank, justifying the action by claiming the building lacked a construction permit. The demolition is part of an ongoing Israeli offensive in the northern West Bank, which has seen the destruction of numerous Palestinian homes, displacing hundreds of people.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Israeli army raided the village of Kafr al-Dik in Salfit Governorate and began tearing down the house. The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission stated that in the past month alone, the Israeli army demolished 126 Palestinian structures, including 74 residential homes and 29 agricultural buildings in the West Bank.
Israel frequently uses the excuse of a lack of construction permits to justify the destruction of Palestinian homes, particularly in Area C of the occupied West Bank, which makes up around 60 percent of the territory. Area C remains under Israeli administrative and security control as per the 1995 Oslo Accords, awaiting a final status agreement with the Palestinians.
The recent demolition comes amid escalating violence in the region. On January 21, the Israeli army launched an offensive in Jenin city and its refugee camp, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 Palestinians. The operation later extended to Tulkarem, where at least three more Palestinians were killed.
