MINSA Confirms First Dengue Death Of 2025 In Panama

The Ministry of health (Minsa) confirmed this Saturday, February 1, the first death from dengue in Panama so far in 2025, according to the report of the Department of Epidemiology corresponding to epidemiological week No. 3 (January 12 to 18, 2025).
The deceased patient is from the Eastern Panama Health Region. According to the report, the national incidence rate in epidemiological week number 3 of 2025 is 22.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The report also indicates that there are a total of 1,008 accumulated cases of dengue nationwide. Of that total, 897 cases of dengue without warning signs; 100 with warning signs and 11 severe cases.
The report detailed that, of that number, the San Miguelito Region heads the list with 286 cases; followed by the Metropolitan Region with 195; North Panama with 136; Los Santos with 87; West Panama with 77; Bocas del Toro with 48; Chiriquí 43; the Colon Region 38 cases; followed by Veraguas with 31; Darien with 23; Herrera with 17; East Panama with 14; Cocle 9 cases; Ngäbe-Bugle region with 3 cases; Kuna Yala with 1 case. No cases are reported in foreigners.
Beginning in 2025, Minsa has registered 80 patients who have required in-hospital treatment. The institution reiterated its call to the population to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in order to prevent the transmission of dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and any other mosquito-borne disease.
The main symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, general malaise, muscle pain and eye pain.
Dengue is a serious and potentially fatal disease transmitted through the bite of the mosquito of the species Aedes aegypti.
