No Justification For Red Sea Escalation After Gaza Ceasefire: Egypt's Abdelatty

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Sunday there is no justification for escalation in the Red Sea region following the successful ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Egyptian efforts continue to implement the agreement's stages, including the exchange of detainees and prisoners, he said.

During a press conference with Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf in Cairo, Abdelatty said they discussed the Gaza ceasefire and efforts to strengthen it. He affirmed Cairo's commitment to Gaza's reconstruction without displacing Palestinian citizens. Egypt will host a conference on the reconstruction effort, he added.

Abdelatty emphasised the need for a comprehensive political process, based on international resolutions, to establish a Palestinian state and achieve regional security and stability.

He stated that the ceasefire agreement, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, negates any justification for escalation in the Red Sea. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's opposition to any military presence by non-riparian states in the region and underscored the importance of enhancing Red Sea security and freedom of navigation. He noted the close cooperation between Egypt and Djibouti on this issue.

Regarding bilateral relations, Abdelatty confirmed discussions on cooperation in renewable energy, stating,“We seek to enhance Egyptian investments in Djibouti.” He also mentioned cooperation in training and capacity building in security, defence, agriculture, and industry.
