Video shared on social media by Qatari Amiri Diwan draws significant attention

(MENAFN) A video shared widely on social media, published by the Qatari Amiri Diwan, has drawn significant attention. The footage shows Ahmed Al-Shara, Syria's transitional period president, presenting Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani with a traditional gray abaya (Bisht). In the video, Sheikh Tamim can be seen smiling as he receives the gift, adjusting his headband and ghutra before donning the abaya, all while smiling warmly. This gesture has sparked many online comments, with observers interpreting the gift as a symbol of Arab tradition.

Social media users have suggested that this exchange represents a shift in Syria's regional relations, especially as the country is gradually repositioning itself politically after years of close ties with Iran.

The visit marks an important moment in Syrian-Qatari relations, as Emir Sheikh Tamim's visit to Damascus on Thursday was his first trip to Syria since the departure of Bashar al-Assad’s government. Syrian-Qatari relations had been on hold since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 but have resumed following Syria’s return to the Arab League in 2023, particularly after the opposition's rise to power in Syria.
