Doha, Qatar: Hailing the journalistic standards of The Peninsula, Chairman of the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Andreas Frangos, has expressed his intention to enter into a collaboration agreement with the newspaper to benefit both media outlets.

A delegation of Cyprus News Agency officials consisting of Chairman Andreas Frangos and Director of CNA Dinos Phinicarides, along with Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the State of Qatar H E Andreas Nikolaides visited The Peninsula last week to discuss avenues of cooperation between the two media entities. They had a detailed meeting with the Editor-in-Chief of The Peninsula Dr. Khalid Mubarak Al-Shafi to discuss future cooperation and praised his leadership role to make the newspaper leading news publication of Qatar.

“We have been informed, and now we can see for ourselves that you are indeed the most trustworthy source of information about Qatar and the region. It would be great (to develop cooperation) between the Cyprus News Agency and your newspaper. We are also eager to do and it would be an honour to start such collaboration,” the Chairman of CNA told The Peninsula, noting that the possibilities for cooperation are endless.

It is pertinent to mention that Qatar News Agency (QNA) and Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on January 29 signed an agreement to enhance cooperation between the two agencies in the field of news exchange and sharing experiences to serve their common goals.

The agreement covers several areas, including the exchange of news and media materials such as news items, reports and bulletins in different news fields, as well as technical cooperation, particularly concerning the available methods of transmission and reception to both agencies with the goal of providing optimal services in the aforementioned areas.

Explaining about their visit to Qatar, Frangos said,“We are here, in Qatar, to sign an agreement between Qatar News Agency and Cyprus News Agency. It's our first agreement with an agency in the region.”

“It opens a gateway of information and reliable information. We share common values with Qatar News Agency and we like to offer to our readers reliable, trustworthy, fact-checked, impartial news and information,” he added.

Referring to the agreement signed between CNA and QNA, as well as future collaboration with The Peninsula, Chairman Frangos said,“Today is just the beginning. We don't want to simply share information and news; we aim to educate ourselves, learn from your experience, and, of course, contribute our own know-how and expertise from Cyprus.”

When asked how the exchange of more information and increased awareness would bring the two countries and their people closer, he said:“You are definitely sharing information. It is being published here in Qatari media, and then the news is being shared in Cyprus through our agency. This is a cultural exchange, not just a transfer of raw news and information.”

He said that through CNA's platform, they wanted to inform Cypriots about the culture, the people living in Qatar, their achievements, and the beauty of their country.

He added,“Even though we share similar thinking patterns, we are members of the European Union, yet at the same time, we are very close to this region, to the Middle East.”
