(MENAFN) The US Department of government Efficiency (DOGE), established by President Donald trump and led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has announced that it has already saved the federal government around $1 billion per day. The agency, which aims to cut federal spending by over $3 billion daily, revealed this figure on Wednesday via its official social media account. DOGE was created as part of Trump’s campaign pledge to reduce government expenditure and was later formalized as a presidential advisory commission.
While not a full-fledged executive department, DOGE is tasked with reducing waste and inefficiency in government spending. The agency’s reported savings come from measures such as halting unnecessary hiring, eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, and stopping improper payments to foreign organizations. DOGE plans to cut up to $2 trillion in federal spending by July 2026.
The mention of "improper payments to foreign organizations" likely refers to the recent 90-day suspension of most foreign aid programs under the Trump administration's review. Additionally, the administration has been dismantling DEI initiatives across the federal government, in line with Trump's executive orders, including one signed this week barring "radical gender ideology" in the military.
