Equinor Reports Improved Safety Performance In 2024

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Equinor reported improved safety performance in 2024, despite a tragic helicopter accident near Bergen in February that claimed the life of an employee, Trend reports.

“This was a tragic accident that has deeply affected us. It is crucial that we continue the work to continuously improve safety in our industry,” said Jannicke Nilsson, Equinor's executive vice president for safety, security, and sustainability.

Despite the incident, Equinor's overall safety performance showed a positive trend by the end of 2024. The company reported a decline in the serious incident frequency (SIF) per million hours worked, which dropped from 0.4 at the end of 2023 to 0.3 in the fourth quarter of 2024. Serious injuries are included in these statistics.

The total recordable injury frequency (TRIF) also improved, decreasing from 2.4 in 2023 to 2.3 in 2024. Additionally, the number of registered oil and gas leaks fell from ten in 2023 to seven in 2024, reflecting a continued focus on safety and operational integrity.

Equinor continues to strengthen its safety culture through the “Always Safe” initiative, which promotes industry-wide learning and risk prevention. The program focuses on major accident prevention in the first quarter of 2025, aiming to enhance safety awareness among employees and suppliers.

In 2024, the initiative saw increased engagement, with approximately 3,800 teams-representing over 40,000 employees and suppliers-completing the final learning package of the year. This package focused on health and the working environment, further embedding safety principles across the industry.

“We strongly believe that long-term and systematic collaboration, dialogue, and shared goals with suppliers will continue to improve our safety efforts,” Nilsson added.

Equinor remains committed to enhancing safety measures and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across its operations.
