Libya turns to Türkiye for expertise in renewable energy

(MENAFN) Libya, a country rich in oil reserves, is now focusing on renewable energy to meet its growing electricity demand. With a population of approximately 7 million people, the country’s current electricity supply from oil and gas-powered plants has become insufficient to keep up with rising demand. As a result, Libya is working to diversify its energy mix, with an emphasis on solar and wind power.

The country’s renewable energy strategy aims to generate 4 gigawatts of capacity by 2035, which would account for 20 percent of its total energy production. This ambitious plan takes advantage of Libya’s vast solar and wind resources, but its success hinges on strong international partnerships and technological support. To this end, Libya is seeking collaboration with global partners who can provide expertise and investment to help achieve its renewable energy targets.

Türkiye, which shares deep historical ties with Libya, is emerging as a key partner in this transformation. With extensive experience in renewable energy development, Türkiye is well-positioned to support Libya in realizing its goals. The cooperation between the two nations is seen as a natural extension of their longstanding relationship and mutual interests.

Abdusselam Elansari, the head of Libya’s Renewable Energy Authority, emphasized that the country’s energy collaboration with Türkiye is not just about technological support but also about their shared history, further strengthening the foundation for future cooperation.
