Federal cabinet of Pakistan says 86 Pakistanis evacuate from Syria to Lebanon
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the federal cabinet of Pakistan announced that 86 Pakistanis, including 79 pilgrims and seven teachers, who had been stranded in Syria, have successfully reached Beirut, Lebanon's capital city. The Pakistani authorities are now coordinating efforts to repatriate these individuals back to Pakistan, with embassy officials working diligently to ensure their safe return, as confirmed in an official statement.
This development comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a directive on Monday, instructing the relevant authorities to devise an action plan for the safe and swift evacuation of Pakistanis wishing to return from Syria. The prime minister emphasized the need to coordinate between agencies to facilitate the repatriation process through neighboring countries, ensuring that the citizens are brought back to Pakistan without delay.
Syria has been facing severe challenges due to ongoing political instability and conflict, which have disrupted essential services and created a dangerous environment for both residents and foreign nationals. These circumstances have made it increasingly difficult for foreigners, including Pakistanis, to navigate the country and seek safe passage out.
Given the situation in Syria, the evacuation of these 86 Pakistanis marks an important step toward securing their safety and repatriating them to Pakistan. The coordinated efforts between Pakistan’s embassy and local authorities in Lebanon aim to ensure that these citizens are safely brought home in the coming days.
