Passenger on airline flight to Tijuana attempts to redirect Mexican flight to US
(MENAFN) On Sunday, a passenger on a Mexican airline flight to Tijuana reportedly tried to redirect the plane to the United States “by use of force,” airline Volaris stated.
“The crew acted according to established security procedures and, according to protocol, the plane was diverted to the airport in Guadalajara, where the airline turned the passenger over to the custody of competent authorities,” Volaris reads.
The National Guard was informed, in accordance with the Federal Civil Aviation Agency, called AFAC, however its specific role remains uncertain. The individual was arrested without additional incident in Guadalajara, AFAC declared in a statement.
Authorities have not declared what type of force the passenger supposedly used or where in the United States the individual, who was not named, planned to go.
CNN contacted Mexico’s federal Department of Security and Volaris for comment but they did not answer directly.
“The rest of the passengers were protected and able to continue on to their final destination,” declared the airline.
