X unveils, quickly pulls aurora: new AI image generator

(MENAFN) Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) lately rolled out a fresh addition to its platform: an AI image generator named Aurora. This feature was briefly live before being unexpectedly removed. During its short availability, numerous users explored Aurora's AI-driven capabilities through Grok and shared their feedback online.

Users reported that Aurora created lifelike images from prompts directly within X's web-based interface. Unlike other AI-powered image-generation tools, Aurora on X allowed the creation of representations of copyrighted figures and public personalities, including Disney characters, without imposing limitations.

However, it did enforce restrictions against generating explicit nudity. Interestingly, despite these safeguards, graphic content like a depiction of a "bloodied President-elect Donald Trump" reportedly bypassed the filters in a test conducted by TechCrunch.

Some members of the xAI team announced Aurora’s launch in posts on X as early as Saturday, highlighting that the team contributed to fine-tuning the AI generator. However, specifics about how Aurora was trained, the underlying technologies used, or whether its development involved collaborations with external partners, were not revealed.
