Garments, pharmaceuticals rank top in Jordan's shipments development


(MENAFN) Jordan has seen huge development in the shipment of garments and pharmaceuticals throughout the period of January-September of the current year, constituting to a total increase in nationwide shipments.

Based on the Department of Statistics' international trade report, shipments of clothes as well as accessories increased by 25.6 percent, hitting JD1.237 billion (USD1.744 billion), a surge from JD985 million (USD1.389 billion) in the same mentioned time, in the previous year.

Pharmaceutical shipments also showed robust development, rising by 18.3 percent to JD446 million (USD628.86 million), compared to JD377 million (USD531.57 million) earlier. Moreover, other products witnessed an 8.6 percent increase, posting JD2.741 billion (USD3.865 billion) in shipments, a surge from JD2.525 billion (USD3.560 billion) in the stated period of the prior year.

Nonetheless, decreases were seen in many major shipment types. Shipments of chemical fertilizers dropped by 11.1 percent to JD695 million (USD979.95 million), a drop from JD782 million (USD1.103 billion). Ornaments and jewelry shipments decreased by 10.5 percent, posting JD544 million (USD767.04 million) compared to JD608 million (USD857.28 million).

Raw potash shipments declined hugely by 29.3 percent, amounting to JD364 million (USD513.24 million) compared to JD515 million (USD726.15million), whereas phosphate shipments dropped by 15 percent to JD386 million (USD544.26 million), a decline from JD454 million (USD640.14 million).
