Iran expresses readiness to expand maritime cooperation with IMO members


(MENAFN) Iran's Transport and Urban Development Minister, Farzaneh Sadegh, expressed the country's readiness to enhance maritime cooperation with members of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Sadegh made the remarks during a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez in Tehran on Wednesday.

Sadegh highlighted Iran's significance in the regional maritime sector, noting that despite ongoing sanctions, Iran faces no issues with cooperating with any IMO member country. The minister reiterated Iran's willingness to further engage with international partners in the maritime industry.

The two officials discussed previous expert studies on maritime cooperation, with Sadegh emphasizing that hosting the IMO head marked a significant achievement for Iran, which would yield positive results for the country.

Dominguez, for his part, underscored the diplomatic importance of the meeting, describing it as a pivotal moment for deepening Iran's maritime relations with the IMO. He stressed the need for continued and expanded cooperation between Iran and the organization moving forward.
