BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. The COP29
platform will host meetings with leaders and authorities of 15
African countries, where new ideas at the global level will be
discussed in detail, Denis Sassou Nguesso, the President of the
Republic of Congo said at the National Pavilion of the Congo's Blue
Zone in Baku, Trend reports.
Noting that there are plans to turn every city in Congo into a
green city, the president announced that thousands of trees have
been planted for this purpose.
“I have sent certain directives to all authorities so that the
entire population, our people, will take care of preserving these
planted trees. It would be more appropriate if this issue is
monitored by the youth. We have organized various conferences and
events on forestry in Brazzaville and other cities.
We are currently organizing a series of major events within
COP29 that will work together with 15 African countries, as well as
Caribbean countries, to ensure that natural resources are dedicated
to greening development and included in each country's GDP. On
November 13, at the COP29 platform, we-leaders and authorities from
15 African countries-will meet and discuss all these issues in
detail.
Here we will discuss new global ideas. This means that natural
wealth should be taken into account as a value of the country's
GDP," added the President of Congo.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will
run until November 22, opened on November 11 at the Baku Olympic
Stadium.
The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date and is
the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan.
Within COP29, the highest-level event - the summit of world leaders
on climate action - will be held on November 12–13.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and
ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate
finance. The COP29 chairmanship has launched 14 initiatives that
include linkages between climate action and the Sustainable
Development Goals, including green energy corridors, green energy
storage, harmony for climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane
reduction in organic waste, action on green digital technologies,
and other topics.
