Ministry Of Municipality Marks World Food Day

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Food Security Department, participated in celebrating World Food Day, which falls on October 16, under the slogan:“The Right to Food for a Better Life and Future”.

This year's celebration aims to achieve a flexible, sustainable and fair food system by 2030, as an awareness event was organised at the Ministry on the efforts by Qatar in the field of food security, with the participation of a number of relevant authorities. The event was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs, Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani; Vice Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari; a number of Directors General of Municipalities and Directors of Departments at the Ministry, and Jassim Al Surour, Director of the Administrative Services Department at Al Meera Company.

On this occasion, Assistant Director of the Food Security Department, Hamad Hadi Al Hajri said Qatar seeks to achieve international solidarity by providing support to local food producers, and the state provides the necessary production inputs, such as organic and chemical fertilizers, and pesticides to farmers, and supports them in marketing their products to ensure the best prices and reduce food loss.

It also supports livestock producers by providing necessary feed and medicines, in addition to supporting the fisheries sector through investment facilities in fish farming and providing the necessary equipment for fishing.

He said:“This day is not just an occasion for celebration, but rather a call to deepen awareness and work hard to find real solutions to confront hunger and poverty. Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari presented a visual presentation on the meaning of the right to food, the reasons for the lack of safe food, including climate change, food waste, and others, and the need to find solutions to these challenges. He also discussed the efforts by Qatar in the field of achieving food security and self-sufficiency.

Jassim Al Surour, Director of Administrative Services at Al Meera, talked about Al Meera's efforts in ensuring the provision of safe food and providing a supply network for products in an appropriate manner, through the distribution of various Al Meera branches across the country, which reached 70 branches to serve the largest possible number of residents.

The event concluded with a presentation by Dr. Mohammed Al Sir from the Agricultural Affairs Department.
