Iran-Tajikistan Commerce In Crude Oil And Related Goods Likely To Increase Trade Turnover Between Both Nations - Minister

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. The commencement of trade in crude oil and oil products between Tajikistan and Iran may double the trade turnover between the two countries, Tajikistan's Minister of energy and Water Resources Daler Juma said at a meeting with Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad in Tehran on September 25, Trend reports.

According to him, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran amounted to $300 million last year (2023). That number is expected to increase by 60 percent this year.

Juma noted that within the framework of the Iranian president's visit to Tajikistan, necessary preliminary preparations will be made to develop trade with Iran in the oil and gas sector.

“At present, most of Tajikistan's daily demand for crude oil and oil products is met by imports. Tajikistan has two oil refineries with a refining capacity of 500,000 tons per year to ensure its energy security,” he said.

Tajikistan's minister expressed interest in the active participation of Iranian companies in the Tajik market.

Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad also stated at the meeting that the development of economic relations between Iran and Tajikistan, especially in the energy sector, is of special importance to Iran. Effective steps have been taken in recent years to develop relations between the two countries in the economic sphere and this process will be further strengthened.

The Iranian minister stated that Iranian companies can operate internationally in the field of oil and gas.
