(MENAFN) China's Defense Ministry spokesperson, Zhang Xiaogang, lambasted the United States as an "empire of lies," asserting that Washington has long manipulated narratives to serve its global interests, according to remarks made to reporters on Thursday. Zhang's comments were prompted by the recent release of an unclassified doctrine by the US Marine Corps titled Deception, which outlines tactics aimed at gaining strategic advantages over perceived adversaries through deliberate distortion of reality.
Zhang criticized what he described as the United State's pervasive deceptive behavior, extending beyond military strategy to penetrate deeply into American societal values. He accused the United States of fabricating falsehoods to further its own selfish goals, solidifying its status as a "veritable 'empire of lies.'" He cited historical instances such as the manipulation of public opinion during the Cold War and controversial events like the presentation of falsified evidence to the United Nations Security Council by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell regarding Iraq's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction in 2003.
Furthermore, Zhang referenced the United State's engagement with the White Helmets in Syria, an organization operating in opposition-held areas, which has accused the Syrian government of committing war crimes. Zhang suggested that these actions were part of broader American strategies that utilize external organizations to justify military interventions, citing instances in Iraq and Syria as examples.
China's sharp criticism of the United States underscores ongoing tensions between the two global powers, highlighting differing perspectives on international relations and strategic maneuvering amid geopolitical challenges.
