PARIS, July 26 (KUNA) -- The much-awaited Paris Olympics got underway on Friday with the participating teams representing many states of the world crossing the River Seine amid fanfare and colorful plumes of vapor.
The champions ferried through the river, waved their countries' flags to the cheers of crowds of people overlooking the event from nearby streets and apartment buildings' balconies.
President Emmanuel Macron accompanied by dignitaries waved to the people, signaling the official start of the Olympic Games. (end)
