Amman, July 24 (Petra) - Director General of the Social Security Corporation (SSC), Mohammad Tarawneh, met with Ayman Al-Rifai, head of the Al-Nashama Forum for the Jordanian Community Abroad, and several forum members on Wednesday to discuss social security concerns impacting Jordanians living abroad.
The meeting addressed strategies for facilitating voluntary enrollment in social security schemes for expatriates.
Tarawneh emphasized the importance of extending social protection to Jordanians abroad, particularly in countries where retirement and social insurance systems may be inadequate. This initiative supports SSC's strategic goal to broaden social security coverage.
Tarawneh underscored the critical role of expatriate forums, associations, and clubs in disseminating SSC's message and encouraging voluntary enrollment. Such enrollment enables expatriates to qualify for benefits under the Social Security Law, including pensions for old age, disability, and survivors.
He also noted the role of these organizations in supporting national efforts to combat unemployment by creating job opportunities for Jordanians abroad. "Our commitment is to include every Jordanian, both within and outside the Kingdom, under the social security umbrella," Tarawneh stated, highlighting that remittances from expatriates accounted for 21% of Jordan's GDP in 2023.
Al-Rifai emphasized the need for improved communication between national institutions and Jordanian communities abroad, advocating for more responsive engagement with their needs and suggestions. He commended the SSC for its efforts to connect with expatriates through forums, clubs, and media outreach, recognizing their role as cultural ambassadors.
Al-Rifai also noted the Al-Nashama Forum's global reach, with 90 branches in 44 countries, 25 Facebook pages with over 1.5 million followers, and more than 350 WhatsApp groups enhancing community communication. Recent advancements include the "Expatriate" app, which offers over 100 free services to expatriates, further improving support and connectivity.
The collaboration between the Al-Nashama Forum and the Social Security Corporation was praised for its joint efforts in addressing expatriate issues and raising awareness through digital platforms and community networks.
