Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes Canakkale, Turkey, no immediate reports of damage

(MENAFN) On Monday, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Azine district of Canakkale province in western Turkey. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the tremor occurred at a depth of 10.23 kilometers, as noted by the Turkish Anadolu Agency. Thankfully, no human or material losses have been reported in the aftermath of this quake.

This recent seismic event comes in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6 of the previous year. Those earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale, were followed by thousands of aftershocks. The catastrophic events resulted in over 57,000 fatalities across both countries and left more than two million people homeless in Turkey alone.
