Amman, Mar. 28 (petra)-- The Jordanian and Iraqi peoples have strong historical links that are too deep and profound to be weakened by a foolish organization that does not uphold athletic values, according to the Jordan Football Association (JFA).
In a statement released yesterday, the JFA expressed concern over a video that was making the rounds on social media by a few users and pages. The video showed provocative chants that incited animosity between Iraq and Jordan, two brotherly peoples, at Amman International Stadium. The remarks that followed were offensive to the two fraternal peoples on a national, popular, and athletic level.
The JFA expressed its dismay at the actions of certain misguided groups to create conflict, extremism, and hatred among sports fans after confirming the aforementioned video and exposing its falsification, the Federation said. It urges Jordanian football supporters to avoid getting sucked into such disrespectful remarks and attempts on any social media platform or media outlet, as they do not reflect Jordanians' values.
In addition to praising the efforts of certain sports journalists in Jordan and Iraq who were made aware of the fabrication of the aforementioned video and warned their followers about the risks of such attempts through various media outlets, the JFA reaffirmed its categorical rejection and condemnation of such attempts.
By hosting the first international game between our national team and its Iraqi counterpart in Basra in 2017, the JFA recalled the tremendous efforts made by His Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association, to lift the ban on Iraqi stadiums. The JFA stated that the official Jordanian national stance toward Iraq, its nation, government, and people serves as an inspiration for these initiatives and positions.
During the World Cup qualifying match between Palestine and Iraq at Amman International Stadium, inflammatory and fabricated videos surfaced. Before they were shown to be untrue, they were in circulation.
