Leading international IT outage lands planes, prevents press all over world

(MENAFN) A significant global IT outage has caused widespread disruptions to air traffic control systems, grounding planes and blocking media operations across several countries. The problem, which emerged around midnight CET on Thursday night into Friday, appears to be linked to a computer glitch, potentially originating from a problematic software update.

Reports indicate that the outage is affecting multiple sectors, including airlines, banks, emergency services, broadcasters, and financial institutions. Authorities in the United States, Spain, Germany, Australia, and other locations have been forced to cancel both takeoffs and landings due to safety concerns stemming from the disruption.

The issue seems to be related to a security update for Microsoft operating systems, specifically Windows 10. This update has caused numerous computers to crash, displaying the notorious "blue screen of death" (BSOD). The software update is associated with CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm known for its role in investigating the 2016 Democratic National Committee hack. CrowdStrike is actively working on a solution and has suggested a workaround to address the "faulty channel file" affecting its Falcon Sensor app.

CrowdStrike, based in Austin, Texas, gained prominence after attributing the 2016 hack to Russian operatives, a claim that significantly influenced subsequent political discourse and allegations of collusion between Donald Trump and Moscow.
