(MENAFN) The deputy head of the Iranian Parliament’s energy Committee has stated that Iran's gas collaboration with Russia will position the country as an energy hub in the region, according to an Iranian news agency. Ramezanali Sangdovini highlighted that the recent gas transfer agreement between Iran and Russia will transform Iran into a regional gas hub, marking a significant shift in the region’s international relations.
Sangdovini pointed out that Iran’s robust gas transmission infrastructure, including pressure boosting stations, has the potential to revolutionize energy transit in the region. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in late June outlines the transfer of Russian gas to Iran, which has been underscored by Iran's Acting President Mohammad Mokhber as crucial for both nations and the broader region. Mokhber emphasized that the agreement signifies a firm commitment to enhancing relations between Tehran and Moscow and promises further agreements and understandings.
Mokhber, during a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller, stressed the importance of the MOU for regional security and economic stability, and called for the expedited completion of the north-south corridor and the Rasht-Bandar Abbas railway to connect regional countries. He noted that the agreement could soon evolve into a formal contract, representing a major shift in regional energy and trade dynamics.
Oji, a key figure in the agreement, affirmed that this deal will boost Iran’s trade share and significantly alter international balances, marking a revolutionary development in the region’s energy and industrial sectors.
