EBRD VP To Visit Türkiye For High-Level Meetings

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. Matteo Patrone, Vice President for banking at the European bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will visit Türkiye from July 22 to 26, with a schedule of key meetings in Istanbul and Ankara, Trend reports.

This visit marks Patrone's first official trip to Türkiye in his new role as EBRD Vice President. During his stay, he will engage with clients, business associations, and government officials.

A significant highlight of the visit includes meetings with Türkiye's Treasury and Finance Minister, Mehmet Şimşek, and senior officials from the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Mr. Patrone will also hold discussions with members of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD) and leading industry representatives, along with existing clients in the energy, banking, and retail sectors.

Ahead of the visit, Patrone emphasized the EBRD's commitment to Türkiye:“Our commitment to Türkiye is unwavering and consistently delivers positive results that contribute to the country's sustainable economic development, including during difficult times. The EBRD's strong partnership with the private sector will continue to bolster the economy's resilience and competitiveness, build up green initiatives and digitalization, and foster inclusive growth. I look forward to engaging with the country's public and private sector representatives to explore further avenues for deepening our cooperation.”

Accompanying Mr. Patrone will be the EBRD's newly appointed Managing Director for Türkiye and the Caucasus, Elisabetta Falcetti, who will officially assume her position in August, succeeding Arvid Tuerkner, now the EBRD's Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova.

In 2023, the EBRD invested a record 2.5 billion euros in Türkiye, driven by green initiatives and in response to the February 2023 earthquakes. So far in 2024, the Bank has invested nearly 1 billion euros in the country. Since 2009, the EBRD has invested over 20 billion euros in Türkiye across 450 projects and trade finance facilities, with 93 percent of these investments directed to the private sector.
