During the summit of the "European Political Community" held in Woodstock, United Kingdom, a meeting took place between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy, Azernews reports.

During the meeting, various aspects and future prospects of the strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, issues of mutual interest on the regional and international agenda, as well as the current state of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process were discussed.

It was emphasized that there is mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in all areas, particularly in energy, education, and humanitarian relations, and that Azerbaijan holds special importance as a major trade partner. It was noted that UK companies are successfully operating in both the oil and non-oil sectors of Azerbaijan's economy, and there are extensive opportunities for further deepening economic cooperation.

Additionally, cooperation in the field of green energy between the two countries was reviewed, and the wide prospects for collaboration in this area with Azerbaijan were appreciated. It was noted that Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change could contribute to strengthening the climate action agenda within the existing cooperation framework.

The importance of support to Azerbaijan in the field of humanitarian demining, considering the mine threat faced by Azerbaijan, was highlighted.

During the meeting, both parties stated that the existing dialogue, mutual visits, and contacts, including political consultations, have significantly contributed to the development of relations between the two countries.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information on the current situation in the region, including the steps taken by Azerbaijan regarding the peace process, Azerbaijan's stance on the normalization of relations with Armenia, and the restoration and reconstruction work being carried out in the liberated territories. Despite significant progress on the text of the peace agreement in negotiations with Armenia, it was emphasized that ongoing claims against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty in Armenia's constitution and legislative acts are the main obstacles to the peace process.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed gratitude for the efforts to hold a meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia at the initiative and participation of the UK Prime Minister within the framework of the "European Political Community" summit. However, he noted that the refusal by Armenia prevented this meeting from contributing to the peace process.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
