Zelensky party MP says that top general wishes for Ukraine to give up

(MENAFN) In a surprising turn of events, a member of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party has accused Ukraine's highest-ranking general, Aleksandr Syrsky, of being prepared to surrender to Russia. This claim was made by MP Mariana Bezuglaya from the "Servant of the People" party, who suggests that Syrsky is colluding with former commander Valery Zaluzhny to undermine Ukraine's chances of victory against Russian forces.

Syrsky was appointed as Ukraine's top military commander in February, succeeding Zaluzhny, who oversaw a significant but ultimately unsuccessful campaign to repel Russian advances last year. Bezuglaya, who serves as the deputy chair of the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Committee, outlined her concerns in a detailed Facebook post, alleging a conspiracy among top military officials that jeopardizes Ukraine's defense efforts.

She characterizes Syrsky and Zaluzhny as part of a "generals' mafia" that is more interested in protecting their positions and privileges than in fostering a new generation of military leadership that she believes could effectively combat the Russian threat. Bezuglaya expressed urgency in her calls for action, stating, “Every further day that Syrsky remains in his position reduces our fighting capability and kills people.” She urged President Zelensky to intervene and dismiss Syrsky from his role.

Citing unnamed sources, Bezuglaya claimed that Syrsky and his close associates are inclined towards negotiating a ceasefire with Russia, which she interprets as a path toward eventual capitulation. “He doesn't believe in victory and earnestly thinks that we cannot get an edge over the Russians on our own land,” she remarked, casting doubt on Syrsky's commitment to Ukraine's military objectives.

Moreover, Bezuglaya accused Syrsky of endangering Ukrainian troops by exposing them to Russian attacks, allegedly to eliminate potential witnesses to his alleged misdeeds. These serious accusations, if substantiated, could have significant implications for Ukraine's military strategy and political stability as the country continues to grapple with the ongoing conflict with Russia.
