4 Soldiers, 3 Militants Killed In Exchange Of Fire In N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, July 10 (KUNA) -- At least four soldiers of Pakistan army and three "terrorists" were killed in a security operation in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said military on Wednesday.
According to Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), three "terrorists" including a high value target Commander Abdul Raheem, were killed in a joint intelligence based operation conducted by security forces and Police at Hassan Khel area in Peshawar District of KPK.
The commander was highly wanted by the Law Enforcement Agencies, and the Government had fixed head money on him. He remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities and was also responsible for the martyrdom of two Pakistani soldiers earlier this year.
"Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists," said ISPR.
The military further said that during intense exchange of fire, four brave soldiers, having fought gallantly and were killed.
"Security forces of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with other law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and stability across the country and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen the nation's resolve," the military concluded.
President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari in a statement paid tribute to the demised soldiers and said the nation stood behind security forces in the fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his message said that the nation saluted the soldiers for the sacrifice. The operation followed the federal government announcement that it would launch a new counter-terrorism operation named "Azam e Istehkam" against the militants.
The announcement comes at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan after the banned outfit Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended the ceasefire agreement with the government last year. (end)
