Iran inaugurates 387km of rail lines in 1 year

(MENAFN) Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) reported that 387 kilometers of new railway lines were inaugurated across the country in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 19. According to Managing Director Kheirollah Khademi, an additional 820 kilometers of railway lines are scheduled to be completed and operational in the current Iranian calendar year. Currently, 3,081 kilometers of railway lines are under construction nationwide, with Khademi expressing optimism about the progress and outcomes in Iran's rail corridors.

In addition to railway developments, Khademi noted that 236 kilometers of freeways and 2015 kilometers of main roads were also inaugurated in the previous year. Earlier statements by Head of Railways Majid Salehi highlighted the inauguration of three rail lines in Yazd and Isfahan provinces, bringing the total length of rail lines inaugurated during the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's administration to 800 kilometers. Salehi emphasized the strategic benefits of connecting industrial and mineral centers to rail networks, including enhanced transportation of agricultural raw materials, reduced traffic congestion and accidents, and lower fuel consumption.

Transport Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash underscored the government's commitment to completing major projects, such as the Rasht-Caspian Railway, during the administration of President Raisi. The project, inaugurated on June 20, 2024, in Gilan province, was attended by several dignitaries including Iran's Acting President Mohammad Mokhber, Russian Federation representative Igor Levitin, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, and ambassadors from neighboring countries.
