UNSC Renews Call On Houthi Militias To Cease Attacks On Shipping

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, June 27 (KUNA) -- The UN Security Council on Thursday issued a resolution renewing the call on the Houthi militias to cease attacks on ships in the Red Sea immediately.
The resolution, number 2739, presented by the US and Japan, was backed by 12 council member states with abstentions from Algeria, China and Russia.
It calls on the Houthi militia to release the seized ship, "Galaxy Leader," and the crew instantly, stressing the necessity to tackle "the root causes of the strife that aggravate regional tension and undermine marine security to ensure rapid response." The UNSC resolution also urges for caution, restraint and abstention from escalation in the Red Sea and the whole Middle East.
Moreover, it blesses diplomatic efforts that have been exerted by "all stakeholders for moving forward dialogue and the peace process in Yemen under the UN aegis." (end) ast
