Ecuador Beat Jamaica, Venezuela Qualifies For Knock-Out Stages Of '24 COPA America


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, June 27 (KUNA) -- Ecuador beat Jamaica 3-1 in the group stages of 2024 COPA America, held in the US, reviving hopes of qualifying for the next round while Venezuela passed Mexico with one goal to nil to take a step forward for the knock-out stages.
An own goal by Jamaica's Kasey Palmer gave Ecuador the lead in the 14th minute. The lead extended by midfielder Kendry Paez who converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute of the first half.
Michail Antonio narrowed the lead to score Jamaica's only goal in the 54th minute but Alan Minda added a third goal for Ecuador in the 91 minute.
Venezuela moved to the knock-out stages by beating Mexico 1-0 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The first half ended scoreless but Venezuela's Jose Rondon converted a penalty kick in the 59 minute to end the clash 1-0.
The US is hosting COPA America which began on June 21 and ends on July 15. (end)
