Out Of Almost 200 Destroyed Historical And Cultural Monuments In Shusha, 18 Ones Restored To Date - Special Envoy


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) SHUSHA, Azerbaijan, June 15. About 18 out of nearly 200 destroyed historical and cultural monuments in Shusha city have been restored to date, special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha region Aydin Karimov said, Trend reports.

He made the announcement at the international conference "Organization of Turkic States: towards new strategic goals against the background of geopolitical realities and global cataclysms."

Karimov informed the conference participants that 16 out of 17 mosques in the city were destroyed by the occupants.

"On the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, work was started on immediate restoration of mosques, as a result of which 4 mosques were fully restored in the city within 4 years, construction of 2 new ones was started - one in the city and the other in Dashalti village.

All works carried out in Shusha, where the engineering infrastructure is being re-created, are carried out under the detailed General Plan of the city. A new full secondary school for 960 people has already been built and put into operation, and the construction of the Central District Hospital is planned to be completed within the current year," Karimov noted.

He mentioned that the main task set before the government by President Ilham Aliyev is to return Azerbaijani citizens, who were forcibly exiled from their native lands as a result of Armenia's occupation policy, to the homeland of their ancestors and provide them with employment.

"We are very proud to state that our compatriots exiled from here during the occupation have already returned to Shusha," he added.
