Biden And Zelensky Sign 10-Year Security Pact, Future US Support Uncertain

According to international media reports, citing US officials, Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement on Thursday, June 13, at the G7 summit to establish long-term defense and security cooperation between the two countries.

Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for additional air defense systems to protect Ukrainians and their infrastructure from Russian bombardment.

The leaders signed the agreement during the G7 summit in Italy. Biden stated the goal is to strengthen Ukraine's defense and deterrence capabilities.

Meanwhile, the White House National Security Advisor clarified that Moscow should not expect the United States to stop supporting Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that this agreement does not include any commitment to deploy US forces to defend Ukraine, but it outlines how the United States and its allies will collaborate with Ukraine to strengthen its defense capabilities and deter future Russian aggression.

This agreement will be similar to bilateral agreements that Ukraine has previously signed with more than 10 other countries.

This summit began on Thursday, June 13, and the leaders of the G7 countries are expected to discuss several other international challenges during this week's meeting, including the war in the Middle East, trade imbalances with China, artificial intelligence, and migration.
