AMD announces new chips, industrial cooperation at Computex 2024

(MENAFN) On Monday, AMD unveiled a new lineup of chips designed for artificial intelligence, targeting a broad spectrum of applications ranging from data centers to advanced laptops. This strategic move is part of AMD's effort to challenge the dominance of Nvidia, the current market leader in AI processors. Over the past two years, there has been a significant surge in demand for specialized processors capable of developing, training, and operating artificial intelligence applications, including GPT chatbots. Despite Nvidia's stronghold, AMD has emerged as a formidable competitor in this burgeoning sector.

Speaking at the Computex exhibition, AMD's General Manager, Lisa Su, emphasized the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in the company's future. She highlighted that AI is now a top priority for AMD, marking the beginning of an exciting era in which artificial intelligence is poised to revolutionize nearly every industry, enhance the quality of life, and reshape the entire information technology landscape. Computex, a premier annual technology exhibition held in Taiwan, is a significant event in the tech industry calendar, showcasing cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing capabilities critical for a wide range of products, from iPhones to the servers powering applications like ChatGPT.

During her keynote, Su announced AMD's commitment to an annual refresh cycle for its advanced microprocessors. She introduced the Instinct MI325X, the latest in the company's line of high-performance chips, which is slated for release later this year. This announcement followed a similar presentation by Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, who also unveiled new AI-focused projects and products.

Moreover, Su highlighted AMD's successful partnerships with some of the world's leading laptop manufacturers, including Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and Asus. These collaborations have resulted in the integration of AMD Ryzen processors into laptops equipped with AI capabilities, showcasing AMD's expanding influence and technological prowess in the AI processor market. This synergy between AMD and major global brands underscores the company's strategic vision and commitment to driving innovation in the AI domain.
