Another Person Found In Mass Grave In Azerbaijan's Khojaly Identified (UPDATED)


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Another person foundin a mass grave in Azerbaijan's Khojaly has been identified, thepress service of the General Prosecutor's Office said, Trend reports.

According to the information, he is a resident of Khankendi,Magerramov Vagif, born in 1951.

Reportedly, during the excavations carried out as part of themajor restoration and construction works in the center of Khojalycity liberated from occupation (near the former carpet factory),investigations continued in connection with the discovery of masshuman remains in the burial ground.

Meanwhile, in the course of excavations carried out as part ofmajor reconstruction and construction works in the center of thecity of Khojaly (near the former carpet factory), which wasliberated from occupation, investigations continue in connectionwith the discovery of mass human remains in a burial site.
As a result of the investigation of the human remains discoveredduring the investigative examination at the said location, it wasestablished that they belonged to at least 18 persons, among whomfour were presumably juveniles. They had been subjected to variousforms of torture, physical violence, and cruel treatment. They hadnot been buried individually following religious rites; theirbodies had not been properly preserved for identification; and theyhad not been marked with signs to determine their location.
Additionally, according to several indicators, the human remainsfound were buried at least 25 years ago.

The General Prosecutor's Office, together with the staff of theForensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Associationof the Ministry of Health, the National Academy of Sciences ofAzerbaijan, the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages,and Missing Citizens, and the Azerbaijan Representative Office ofthe International Committee of the Red Cross, inspected the sceneof the incident, conducted an expert examination, and conductedlaboratory tests to identify the victims from bone fragments andother relevant circumstances.

At the ongoing stage of the forensic genetic examinationconducted by the Main Military Medical Department of the StateSecurity Service, one more resident of Khankendi has beenidentified.

Thus, 10 people were identified by the human remains found inthe mass grave.

Based on the investigation materials, all of the above personsdisappeared on February 26, 1992, in the territory of Khojalydistrict.

The collected materials are being investigated in theInvestigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office byattaching them to the criminal case under preliminaryinvestigation. The public will be provided with additionalinformation.
