WHO head declares Israel’s evacuation threats to Al-Quds hospital in Gaza concerning

(MENAFN) On Sunday, the WHO chief declared that the report from the Palestine Red Crescent Society regarding the evacuation warnings to Gaza's Al-Quds Hospital is "deeply concerning."

“We reiterate - it’s impossible to evacuate hospitals full of patients without endangering their lives,” Tedros Ghebreyesus noted in a post on X.

He went on to say that international humanitarian law must always preserve access to healthcare.

Previously, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that Israel threatened to attack the medical establishment in Gaza and commanded an "immediate evacuation."

We received "serious threats from the occupation authorities to immediately evacuate Al-Quds Hospital in the Gaza Strip, as it is going to be bombarded," the humanitarian organization declared on X.

In addition, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) expressed alarm and called for a de-escalation of the situation.

"I am deeply alarmed to hear that Palestine Red Crescent Society teams at the Al-Quds Hospital have again this morning been told to immediately evacuate," IFRC Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain declared on X.

"I cannot stress this further," he stated and continued: "There is an urgent need to de-escalate to protect civilian lives, hospitals and doctors."

Israel asserts that Hamas operates beneath civilian buildings, including hospitals, and that “in order to dismantle Hamas, we must dismantle their underground tunnels.”
