Hyundai to establish "mobile clinics" at five locations in United States

(MENAFN) Hyundai announced on Wednesday its plans to establish "mobile clinics" at five locations in the United States, aimed at providing anti-theft software upgrades for specific vehicle models that have become prime targets for theft, particularly due to a technique popularized on social media platforms like TikTok. The South Korean automaker revealed that these clinics will operate for a duration of two to three days, coinciding with weekends, at five key locations: New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Rochester, New York. The scheduled dates for these clinics are between October 28 and November 18.
In addition to the mobile clinics, Hyundai also intends to support single-day regional clinics to be conducted by dealerships before the conclusion of 2023, although specific locations and dates have not been disclosed at this time. The primary focus of these initiatives is to address the surge in thefts involving Hyundai vehicles, which has been exacerbated by the spread of a technique that exploits the absence of engine immobilizers in these models.
The affected Hyundai vehicles include a range of models from different years, encompassing the 2018-2022 Accent, the 2011-2022 Elantra, the 2013-2020 Elantra GT, the 2013-2014 Genesis Coupe, the 2018-2022 Kona, the 2020-2021 Palisade, the 2013-2022 Santa Fe, the 2013-2018 Santa Fe Sport, the 2019 Santa Fe XL, the 2011-2019 Sonata, the 2011-2022 Tucson, the 2012-2017 and 2019-2021 Veloster, and the 2020-2021 Venue.
The uptick in theft rates for these particular Hyundai models is attributed to the discovery by thieves that they lack engine immobilizers, a standard anti-theft technology that has been a common feature in many other vehicles. The absence of this crucial security measure has made these models vulnerable to theft, compelling Hyundai to respond proactively and address the issue to safeguard its customers and their vehicles.
